about yoga
Antara comes from the Sanskrit word meaning ‘space, spaciousness or the space between two things’. With a regular yoga practice one can attain space within the mind, body and our daily lives. When we create space within the body, energy is able move freely throughout, maintaining and repairing all major systems of the body, to bring vitality and a long and healthy life. The space created in the mind, brings mental clarity, increased body awareness, focus and concentration; enabling us to live in the present moment and trust our intuition.
Toni the owner of Antara Yoga has practiced varying styles of yoga for many years and has great pleasure in teaching the ancient practices of Yoga; Pranayama, Asana, Meditation, Mantra, Bandha and Mudra to students of all ages, whether beginner, intermediate or advanced practitioners.
There are many different branches, schools and styles of yoga. Toni offers the following styles taught in groups or on a one to one basis:
Hatha Yoga
Perhaps the path of Yoga most people are familiar with, since this is the most popular branch of Yoga in the West. This branch of Yoga uses physical poses (Asana), Breathing ( Pranayama), and Meditation to achieve better health, as well as increased spirituality. If you want a peaceful mind and a strong, flexible and healthy body, Hatha Yoga may just be the path for you.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga
Vinyasa flow is a flowing sequence of postures with an emphasis on the connection of breath with movement and is designed to condition, tone, and build focus and concentration. Although this type of class is challenging it can be adapted to suit all levels. This class can also be practiced in the heat as a 'Hot Vinyasa Flow'.
Pregnancy Yoga
Yoga is the ideal exercise for pregnant woman. It is widely recommended by midwives and doctors to expectant mothers as a way of keeping fit while managing daily life.
During pregnancy, yoga helps to:
- Maintain suppleness without strain
- Maintain and build energy
- Cope with stress and anxiety
- Promote restful and restorative sleep
- Relieve pain in labour and childbirth
- Soothe common ailments during pregnancy (e.g. swollen joints, heartburn, constipation, tired legs)
- Connect with the unborn baby using the breath and visualization
- Create community between other mothers-to-be
Pregnancy yoga; strengthens, tones and relaxes the whole body and mind and offers a holistic program of breath work, relaxation, postures, movement, chanting and meditations suited to all stages of pregnancy.
Childrens Yoga (2yrs-Teens)
Our children are growing up in a very fast-paced world, often coping with the stresses of busy lives and a great deal of competition, both academically and socially. Obesity is on the rise and exercise is on the decline as more and more junk foods are marketed specifically at them. Yoga teaches children how to relax and empowers them with self-awareness, confidence, and focus, whilst developing their flexibility and balance, both physically and emotionally.
Yoga Therapy
Yoga therapy is the adaptation of yoga practices for people with health considerations. It can aid in the alleviation of many different symptoms and ailments associated with and including back pain, hypertension, heart conditions, Parkinson's, bi-Polar, depression, ADHD, ADD, asthma, diabetes, hyperacidity, IBS, cancer, MS, ME, migraine, RSI and stress to name only a few.
Yoga therapy uses physical postures, breathing practices, relaxation techniques and meditation to help restore body and mind balance and promote natural healing. Once you have learned the practices appropriate to your condition you will be able to use them to care for your own health.

about toni
I am a registered teacher with Yoga Alliance UK (500hr) and have over 3500 hours of teaching experience since 2005.
Since 1998 I have practiced the following styles of yoga: Iyengar, Kundalini, Astanga, Dynamic & Flow, Hot, Scaravelli and Jivamukti.
I began training as a yoga teacher with Allie Hill of Yogahaven Brighton and Jimmy Barkan of The Barkan Method. After successfully completing The Barkan Method training in 2005 I returned to Jimmy in 2006 to complete level II and III Hot Vinyasa Flow teacher training. In the same year I also completed Shoden Reiki (Level 1) and Okuden Reiki (Level 2).
After the birth of my daughter in the summer of 2007 I began training and development in Children’s and Pre & Postnatal Yoga and in 2008 I completed the Children’s Yoga Teacher Training at The Special Yoga Centre with Jo Manuel. In September of the same year I began teaching on the Yogahaven Teacher Training program, to which I am principal assistant and full time lecturer.
In 2009 I took training in the Classical Yoga style to attain a distinction in Classical Pre & Postnatal Yoga.
With a passion for yoga philosophy and to further my own knowledge I am currently studying the 800hr Yoga History and Philosophy course with Georg Feurstein.
I am also half way through a year long course; Yoga for the Mind – Neuropathics with Heather Mason and studying the extra required hours to accredit with the BCYT and the CNHC to become an NHS complimentary Yoga therapists specific to mental health. I believe this to be another route to making the therapeutic benefits of yoga more accessible to more people.
Inspired by the neuroscience on this course I am also applying to do and MSC in Clinical Neuroscience at Roehampton University.

testimonials
Sari. Eastbourne, East Sussex
"I find Toni's teaching style compassionate and inspiring. My body was tight from many years of sitting at a desk and my mind was cluttered and I found it very hard to relax and sleep at night. Over the last year of having one to ones with her, I have noticed a real difference in my outlook to life. I feel more relaxed and focused and I feel much more able to accept what life brings. My body is beginning to move more freely and I am almost completely without pain in my lower back for the first time in years. I've been inspired to help heal my own body through yoga and Toni's teaching."

Yogahaven ClaphamGo with the Flow (Chakra 2)
his workshop will focus on flowing postures that open the groin and hips, bringing movement to the pelvis and lower back, allowing greater adaptability and receptivity into our lives. The second chakra encourages us to feel the feelings that arise as we open to life just as it is. As we allow ourselves to accept what is, we taste the sweetness (and bittersweetness) of life. This workshop provides a different perspective, bringing awareness to our feminine and masculine subtle energies through the practice of both hatha and yin style postures.
